This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending some time in Gulf Shores, AL for my best friends birthday! There has been huge talk about the oil spill ruining the beautiful white sand beaches of Alabama and Florida and it’s a sad sad thing. But these cities depend on tourism and we shouldn’t stop coming because of the oil.
It might mean that you can go swimming in the ocean and it might even mean you can’t lay out on the beach but there are other things that you can do. What about just spending time in your condo/beach house with the people you came to be with? There are many other things to do in town including eating out, take the kids to a water park or pool, go shopping.
While I was there I spent time with my friends eating at The Oyster House and Lulu’s and took walks and hung out at the pool. Yes, we did try to find a boat to rent but no boats were going out unless they were private boats. The beaches had not been tainted yet, so there is still time to just hang out at the beach.
Vacation to the Gulf Coast can still be a great vacation without just going to the beach. In this time of need the greatest thing we can do to support the Gulf Coast is to still visit and be apart of the community if not just for a little while. If people stop going, everything is really going to change and it really never will be the same.
This is something we must fight against and this is a good way to start the fight. The oil may still be gushing but we can do our part to keep the party moving. Don’t count the Gulf Coast out just yet because it’s still an amazing place to be.
