It’s A Matter of Respect

Politics is something I am passionate about in life. I’m not one of those people who pushes their political views down your throat, I listen and I share…but I don’t argue. I’m not afraid to not talk about something because I truly don’t understand what is going on. And I’m definitely not one of those people who gets all of their news from broadcast agents; I read the newspaper too.

This General McChrystal matter was horrible and big deal and I even said to myself I wouldn’t vote for President Obama for a second term if he didn’t accept the general’s resignation. It doesn’t matter what party you are aligned with or your feelings on the war, the President deserves the up most respect because he is the commander-in-chief. MyChrystal disrespected the president, the vice-president and many other people by what he said in that article.

But what was he thinking? Yes, I know in the past he has been able to have loose lips and even the freedom to do whatever he wanted without real punishment, maybe just a stern talking to. Was he thinking this is just Rolling Stone they won’t take it that far? Was he just ready to move on with his life? He could have just resigned instead of ending his career in such a shameful way. Maybe he thought that he was non-disposable, the only person who knows this is him.

People are all up in arms about the resignation of The General, but we must put this into context. We do live in America and have the right to free speech. But when you join the military or take that government job you kind of lose that right. At all times you are representing the United States of America and I’m sure those people know that before venturing into those situations. Secondly, if you were to speak out about your boss to the local newspaper in a unfavorable light, most likely you are going to be axed the next day. Thirdly, if President Obama didn’t accept his resignation what message with that send the the troops who are out their fighting that war. It would show two things: 1. The administration who is supposed to be backing you can’t get it together with policy so you’re basically wasting your time out here and 2. You can say any ole thing you want about the President, the commander-in-chief, and you can get away with it.

This was the right thing to do for our country and for the war. President Obama is taking charge and letting the people see what they’ve been wanting to see.
